Make 3D Holograms on your Phone with old CD Case [Tutorial]

3D holograms are really cool, and really expensive. Until now. Well, at-least since the last few years. With an old CD and a few stationary supplies, you can make your own on your phone (as long as it has a 3.5inch or larger screen)

Here’s what you need :

  1. Graph Paper
  2. CD Case
  3. Tape
  4. Pen or Pencil
  5. Knife or Glass Cutter
  6. Scissors
  7. Smartphone

Let’s Start.

Step 1

Take your graph paper and draw a 1/3.5/6cm Rhombus like in the image shown below. Now, cut out the shape carefully with scissors and keep it aside.

Step 2

Take your CD case and break off the outside rim. It’s just gonna get in the way, and we don’t need it.

Step 3

Trace the cut out Rhombus on to the CD case with a Pen or Pencil

Step 4

Cut the plastic really carefully with a knife ot glass cutter. Don’t hurt yourself. The smoother the cut the better it will look afterwords. You need to make 4 of these.

Step 5

Putting all the pieces together is a tricky task. But with little patience you will be able to do it. Just place the pieces edge to edge and hold them together with a piece of tape.

The end result

The cleaner the plastic and the cleaner the cuts are the better it looks. You can also use hot-glue to put everything together, however it is messy and takes away from the experience. Feel free to experiment with super-glue as well.
